Survival Increased with Vaccine for Advanced Prostate Cancer
April 14, 2009
Long-term data, released today from a phase III clinical trial of men with advanced prostate cancer, show overall survival was increased with the use of an anti-cancer vaccine. This is big news not only for men with advanced prostate cancer, but it also gives hope that cancer vaccines can be effective against other advanced cancers. By harnessing a patient’s own immune system to fight the cancer, cancer vaccines take a novel approach against these otherwise fatal conditions.
Dr. Sam Chang, a urologic oncologist at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center discusses this on today’s “Patient Power,” hosted by Andrew Schorr.
