Explore Benefits of Mindfulness Meditation

Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center will host “A Taste of Mindfulness,” Tuesday, April 17, at 6 p.m. at the Green Hills clinic, 3810 Bedford Ave., Suite 100 (located behind the Mall at Green Hills).
Michelle Foote-Pearce, R.N., M.S., will lead the free, informative seminar on the process of being mindful during everyday life. Foote-Pearce is a registered nurse with a Master of Science in oncology nursing from Yale.
“Mindfulness meditation is the practice of waking up, paying attention and being present in the moment regardless of what else is happening and without judgment,” Foote-Pearce said.
Research indicates that mindfulness meditation may provide several benefits, including stress relief, improved immunity, better sleep quality, increased mental awareness and clarity and improved mood.
Details about mindfulness research and the benefits this practice provides, especially for cancer patients, will be explored.
Foot-Pearce will lead participants through brief instructional sessions for several types of guided mindfulness.
Appetizers will be served beginning at 6 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:30. The mindfulness program is part of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Green Hills Community Seminars series.
